Adding 10,000 Jobs to San Antonio's Economy

The oil and gas industry is expected to add more than 10,000 Eagle Ford jobs to the San Antonio area. That's a quote straight from the former Mayor Henry Cisneros.

Ten thousand jobs would have twice the economic effect as that of the Toyota plant and its suppliers, he said, even as he sought to tamp down enthusiasm a bit.

Record Numbers Attend Robstown Job Fair

The industry is pushing forward full force and Eagle Ford jobs are coming with them. Job News hosted the largest career fair in the company's history yesterday in Robstown, TX (near Corpus Christi). As many as 3,000 attendees made the trek to apply for the more than 2,000 jobs that were on display from 29 companies. For those that count, the population of Robstown is only a little over 12,000. The population grew by 25% for the day! Wow! If you want to attend the next event, we'll be tracking South Texas career fairs at our Eagle Ford job fairs page.

I caught up with Kevin Robbins from Job News USA this morning to hear more about the show:

"This was our second job fair in the area and the largest job fair in our company's history. We'll be planning another job fair in the coming months (likely in the first quarter of 2012)

A great thing about yesterday's job fair was there were more people along with better female attendance. Likely, double the number of women that came to the Beeville career fair.

Many of the vendors shared that it was the best job fair they had been a part of."

They began to lose count, but Kevin said best estimates were "2,800 to 3,000 attendees".

Companies are just begining to hit their stride in developing the Eagle Ford and you can bet there will be ample job opportunity for many years to come. I'm sure the jobs that were landed yesterday were a welcomed Christmas gift.

Did you attend the Robstown Job Fair? We'd love to hear more about your experience.

South Texas Oil & Gas Job Fairs

More than 10,000 direct Eagle Ford jobs have been created in past two years and most expect that number will more than double over the next two. The play is entering a producing phase where more operations and maintenance personnel will be needed. That's in addition to the office managers and oilfield workers who are making sure wells are being drilled on schedule. With the influx of workers, we also have more resources at our disposal. There have been Eagle Ford related job fairs almost every week over the past couple of months. If you want to stay up to date, be sure to visit our new Eagle Ford Job Fairs page, where we'll be tracking all job fairs. Over the coming month, there's a job fair in Robstown on December 7, 2011, and another in Laredo on January 13, 2012. In addition, you can always search for jobs right now at our Eagle Ford Jobs page.

While big dollars have been invested by operators gaining positions in the play, now is the time real investment begins. Eagle Ford drilling has eclipsed 200 active rigs and best estimates peg a peak at 250+ rigs. If each rig employees 50 or more direct workers, we have at least 2,500 more rig hands coming to the area. Add ancillary services who benefit from an uptick in business and you very easily get to the job boom we're experiencing today.
