This week the Eagle Ford Shale rig count rose from 181 in the prior week's count to 197 active drilling rigs. The gas rig count remained at 110 rigs drilling, while the oil rig count increased from 70 to 85 active rigs. Two rigs are drilling injection wells. Horizontal rigs account for 177 of the 197 rigs drilling in the South Texas region. Drilling activity should continue to climb over the coming months as operators commit more rigs to the play.
