Fayette County, TX and the Eagle Ford Shale Play
Fayette County (960 sq miles) is in south-central Texas and forms part of the Eagle Ford shale play. Fayette County sits in an area of the Eagle Ford formation that is liquids-rich in nature.
The county is better known for its Austin Chalk production and as an extension of the Giddings Field. The county is in the northern region of the Eagle Ford play where the formation is not as thick or thermally mature as other areas. Successful drilling in Fayette County does have the potential to open the county to additional drilling. Activity in the county is focused in the shale oil window, where the the formation is being developed with horizontal drilling. The extent of commercial production in the county is not yet understood as Eagle Ford exploration in Fayette County is still in its early stages.
County services of interest to oil and gas lease owners include the Fayette County Appraisal District (tax collector) office and the Fayette County Clerk (property records) office. The county seat is the town of La Grange. Other towns in Fayette County include Carmine, Fayetteville, Flatonia, Muldoon, Round Top, and Schulenburg.
