Burleson County, TX and the Eagle Ford Shale Play
Burleson County (678 sq miles) is located approximately 100 miles northwest of Houston, TX. Burleson County is a legacy producing area where operators target the Austin Chalk and other conventional formations.
The Eagle Ford shale serves as the source rock in this area and much of the oil has been expelled into the overlying Austin Chalk. Early Eagle Ford drilling results in this area were not as positive as other areas. The county lies in the oil maturity window of the Eagle Ford, but the geology of the Eagle Ford formation in this area is not as conducive to production as it is to the southwest toward Fayette, Gonzales, and DeWitt counties. Drilling in the Southwest portion of the county will help determine the potential of the Eagle Ford in Burleson County.
County services of interest to oil and gas lease owners include the Burleson County Appraisal District (tax collector) office and the Burleson County Clerk (property records) office. The largest towns and communities in the county include Caldwell, Chriesman, Deanville, Frenstat, Lyons, Snook, and Somerville. The county is also considered part of the Bryan-College Station metro area.
