Eagle Ford Regional Rig Count 271 - Halliburton Grand Opening - Sept 20, 2013
The Eagle Ford Shale rig countdecreased by one rig from 272 to 271 running this past week. Many in South Texas spent time in San Antonio or in Corpus Christi this week at the two major conferences. Let us know if you had a good time or heard anything interesting in the comments below.
Halliburton officially opened the company's 150-acre San Antonio operations center. The new office includes over 400,000 square feet of buildings and has the capacity to employ 1,500 people. Read more in the article Halliburton Opens San Antonio Operations Center
The U.S. rig count fell seven rigs from 1,768 to 1,761 running this past week. A total of 386 rigs are targeting natural gas (15 less than last week) and 1,369 are targeting oil in the U.S. The remainder are drilling service wells (e.g. disposal wells, injection wells, etc.). 836 rigs are running in Texas.
Baker Hughes rig count is quoted here. Baker Hughes also releases its own Eagle Ford Rig Count that covers the 14 core counties (~232 rigs). The rig count published on EagleFordShale.com includes a 30 county area impacted by Eagle Ford development. Eagle Ford Oil & Gas Rigs
[ic-l]The natural gas rig count fell from 43 to 39 rigs running over the past week. Natural gas prices held virtually flat during the week and futures were trading around $3.70/mmbtu on Friday afternoon.
The oil rig count increased by three rigs from 228 to 231 running. WTI oil prices were trading just below $105/bbl. Oil prices have been above $100 for 11 weeks, but are off the highs above $110/bbl. Eagle Ford light crude traded at $101.25/bbl on Sept 20th.
A total of 229 rigs are drilling horizontal wells, 29 rigs are drilling directional wells, and 13 rigs are drilling true vertical wells. McMullen and Karnes counties lead development with 36 and 33 rigs running, respectively. See the full list of drilling by county below.

The Eagle Ford Shale Rig Count is an index of the total number of oil & gas drilling rigs running across a 30 county area in South Texas. The South Texas rigs referred to in this article are for ALL drilling reported by Baker Hughes and not solely wells targeting the Eagle Ford formation. All land rigs and onshore rig data shown here are based upon industry estimates provided by the Baker Hughes Rig Count and/or Smith Service Co's (Schlumberger) Smith Rig Count.
